When Momma P came into town a couple weeks ago I convinced her to go for a hike her first night. I didn't plan to hike as far as we did, but I did plan on finding dinner along the way. We stuck to the latter resolution even though it required a few more steps than expected. Eventually we agreed on Cafe Porto Bello in South Boston. Their website doesn't do them justice, but a few more site hits probably won't hurt them so I'll link you there anyways. We both ordered the butternut squash soup...talking to Momma P in person is really the only way to understand how well the dish came together (nutmeg necessary) and with that in mind I'll just leave it at it was good. Real good.
The restaurant is teeny and if they're full you're forced to wait outside. This may prove undesirable at times. However, teeny also means cozy and I would be willing to wager that within those walls more than one couple has first exchanged "I love you(s)".
As a word of advice, they know they're good. Or at least they act like it. Which is fine, but don't laugh at the waitress as she does her spiel with a completely straight face regardless if it's appropriate to be doing so or not. She gets defensive real quick. And she looks scrappy.
You'll tip for the food regardless.
Enjoy!
