Good Day: Free Rides, Free Food and No Forks Allowed

If you had asked me last Friday if I was excited about this Friday, I would have said no. And glared at you. Definition of foul mood. But, much to my surprise, yesterday turned out wonderful.

First I woke up and was feeling sick. And it was raining. And I was thinking about calling in but realized I wanted to be at the internship and so off into the rain I went. I started the 10 minute walk to the subway because there was no bus in sight and within a few seconds I got offered a ride from the security guard. Nice as can be, I had an unawkward conversation with a total stranger and forgot how crappy my stomach felt.

I got to work and sometime around 11:30 a.m. I started thinking soup was the way to go. So I got in line to pay. And the sweet parking guy in front of me added my soup and pita to his tray and thus to his total. I asked him if I looked like I make $0 a year (I do by the way). He said every now and then you just have to do nice things.

Love. Kidding. Kind of. Love is broad.

Work progressed. I don't know if I'm starting to scream charity case or if my coworkers just love me, but I had a afternoon full of caring events which was topped off by this:

Coworker A just kept telling me there isn't a good English word for them and I should just call them "waffle" as that's what all her son's friends call them. Coworker Z told me the name, and I recited it back to her, and I have no idea what she or I said. I'll figure it out. For now, know that they're delicious.

My day was capped off by a trip to a restaurant I've been itching to go to for over a year now. I refound it last weekend while I was walking and asked my current manager/preceptor if it was any good and got his approval before suggesting it to the roommate who was all in. Addis Red Sea, here we come....

Injera. It's good. Different, but good.

E and I both got Yesmsir Alcha which is lentils with tumeric, onions, green peppers, garlic and ginger root. I was excited and completely at ease with this choice because I have a slight obsession with lentils. E was exploring them for the first time but was pleased with her selection.

Let's be honest, everyone was pleased with their selection. I'm getting the Tikle Gomen, cabbage cooked with vegetable oil, garlic, ginger and green peppers, next time though. They sent out some cabbage with our injera and I almost fell face first into it with love. I wish I was exaggerating, but then again my long legs made for somewhat precarious seating so falling could very easily have turned into my reality.

Eating is similar to what I did in Kenya with ugali, and I love eating with my hands so I was perfectly fine/excited about this. Although I must say ugali is much easier to eat with than injera and the whole time I was eating I was sort of wishing this was pojo and chapati. Stay in the moment Kaylee.

Enjoy!
